Kansas City, MO currently enforces the 2018 International Building Code. Kansas City adopts its own code editions. Missouri has no statewide building code; KCMO's 2018 code package (Ord. 200418, Code of Ordinances Ch. 18) took effect 2020-06-28, the energy code was upgraded to the 2021 IECC effective 2023-07-01 (Ord. 220364, amended by Ord. 260144), plumbing follows the UPC rather than the IPC, and a 2024 I-Code update exists only as posted proposal drafts — not yet adopted as of July 2026.
